Noog Weekly #1 — The Wailers, Cinco, and the CFC this weekend
First edition. Four things worth doing this weekend and a few things to put on the calendar now.
First edition of Noog Weekly. The idea's simple: every Thursday, a short list of what's actually happening this weekend in Chattanooga — events worth your time, stories worth knowing about, nothing padded. We're starting lean and getting better from here.
Forecast says mid-70s Saturday. The Tennessee River's running fast after last weekend's rain. Good time to be outside.
🎭 This Weekend
Friday, May 1
The Wailers — The Barrelhouse Ballroom, 1501 Long St, Southside
The surviving members of Bob Marley's original backing band. They've been touring since 1974 and they still mean it. The Barrelhouse is one of the better rooms in town for anything that needs real volume. Tickets at the door or online.
Saturday, May 2
Chattanooga FC vs. Huntsville City FC — Finley Stadium, 1826 Carter Street
USL League One. Local club, real league, rowdy supporter section in the south end. Soccer in Chattanooga has gotten more legitimate every year and Finley's a good stadium for it. Get tickets.
Cinco de Mayo Bar Crawl, North Shore / Downtown
Two separate crawls are running Saturday — one starting at The Big Chill and Grill on Cherokee Blvd ($20, wristband includes drink specials), one starting at Nic & Norman's on Market Street ($8 entry). Both do 5-6 stops. Pick your neighborhood. North Shore crawl / Downtown crawl.
📰 Heard Around Town
- The Giant Bass Open returns to Chickamauga Lake this weekend. One of the bigger fishing tournaments in the region, with serious prize money. Not your thing, but the lake's beautiful and it'll be crowded by 5am Saturday. NewsChannel 9
- Battle Academy parking permit plan rejected by city council. Parents and neighbors near Battle Academy pushed for permit parking to fix drop-off congestion. Council voted it down Tuesday. Still unresolved. NewsChannel 9
- First-time homebuyer assistance program under scrutiny. Council members are questioning how Hamilton County's down payment assistance program distributes funds. Details are still thin but this one's worth watching if you're in the market. NewsChannel 9
- Reddit says there's a jazz bar question floating around. Someone on r/Chattanooga asked about jazz venues downtown and the thread has a few genuine answers. If that's your speed, worth a scroll.
📅 On the Calendar — May
A few things to lock in now before they sell out:

- May 8 — Hayden Coffman, Songbirds Guitar Museum. Small room, good acoustics. Info
- May 11 — Chattanooga Pizza Week kicks off across participating restaurants. Keep an eye on local spots announcing deals.
- May 19 — Jason Mraz, Soldiers & Sailors. Memorial Auditorium shows have been good lately. Tickets
- May 23 — Frazier Festival, 22 Frazier Ave. Annual street festival on the North Shore. Free, outdoor, worth going early.
